Glenn R. Maupin, 33° Memorial Class

   Jacob Y. Blackburn of Waynesville, Missouri, Thomas P. Circle of McCune, Kansas, W. Casey Crum of Spring Hill, Kansas, Corey D. Frisbee of Kansas City, Missouri, David C. Mantas of Columbus, Kansas, Thomas E. Spurgeon, Sr. of Pittsburg, Kansas, Thomas E. Spurgeon, Jr. of Frontenac, Kansas and Andrew E. Johnson, Jack W. Lawrence, and Ralph L. Reed all of Fort Scott, Kansas made Thirty Second Degree Master Masons during the Two Hundred Twenty First Reunion of the Fort Scott Scottish Rite. The class elected Andrew Johnson as Class President, Ralph Reed as Vice-President, Casey Crum as Secretary, Tom Spurgeon, Jr. as Treasurer and Tom Spurgeon, Sr. as Orator.  The Valley of Fort Scott is proud of their accomplishment in continuing their education in masonry.  Special guests from the Supreme Council attending the reunion were Ill. Dean Alban, 33°, Director of Member Services for the Supreme Council and his assistant Stan Dodd, 32°, K.C.C.H.  Also, in attendance was Ill. Reunion Namesake

   Glenn R. Maupin was a member of Rising Sun #8 Blue Lodge of Fort Scott for 69 years and a life member of the Fort Scott Scottish Rite for 63 years, joining on April 24, 1946, attaining the honor of K.C.C.H. on October 20, 1959 and 33° on November 10, 1973.  He was also a member of Mirza Temple Shrine, Legion of Honor, Bourbon County Shrine Club, and Fidelis Deo White Shrine.  Brother Maupin passed away on January 16, 2009 at the age of 94.  Members of Glenn’s family present at the Spring Reunion were Grandson Kevin Asbury, Daughter Stephanie Johnson, Great Grandson Amari Berry, Granddaughters Jennifer Wirth and Hilary Berry.   

Members of Distinction

   Several of our Scottish Rite Brethren hit significant milestones this year and were recognized at the Spring Reunion on Saturday, April 25, 2009.  These Masters of the Royal Secret have stayed the course following the Light of Scottish Rite Freemasonry.

   Kenny Schwartz, age 98, was honored for 62 years of service and for being one of the oldest members of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of the Southern Jurisdiction.  Kenny joined the Fort Scott Scottish Rite on October 22, 1947 and attained the rank of 33° on October 16, 1989.  Ill. Hugh Gill, 33°, Sovereign Grand Inspector General of the Supreme Council to the State of Kansas presented Kenny with his certificate while members and guests looked on.  Brother Schwartz, who owned and operated an electric company, and his wife, Clara, are long time residents of Fort Scott.     Also present at the Spring Reunion receiving certificates from Hugh Gill were Jack Overman, 32°, K.C.C.H. receiving his 50 Year Certificate and Pin, Don Wheeler, 32°, K.C.C.H. receiving his 25 Year Certificate, and James Woods, 32°, accepting his Master Craftsman Certificate.   When you see one of these Brothers, please take a moment to recognize their accomplishments!
